AFM announces 2002 Coordinators of the Year

NORTH PALM BEACH, FLA. – In a longstanding tradition, American Football Monthly, the magazine for football coaches, has announced its winners for the 2002 coordinator of the year awards.
As always, this year’s selection was not an easy task, however, with the help of several of the top experts in the industry, AFM has compiled a list of winners based on their accomplishments on the field for the 2002 season. All offensive, defensive and special teams coordinators were eligible for consideration. The winners are:

NFL
Offensive – Marc Trestman, Oakland
Defensive – Monte Kiffin, Tampa Bay
Special Teams – Darrin Simmons, Cincinnati

NCAA Division I-A
Offensive – Norm Chow, Southern Cal
Defensive – Brian VanGorder, Georgia
Special Teams – Lester Erb, Iowa

NCAA Division I-AA
Offensive – Melvin Spears, Grambling
Defensive – Rich Nagy, Maine
Special Teams – Dale Jones, Appalachian State

NCAA Division II
Offensive – John Picha, Central Washington
Defensive – Kevin Shirley, Valdosta State
Special Teams – Payam Saadat, Western Washington

NCAA Division III
Offensive – Roland Rodriguez, Trinity (Texas)
Defensive – James Anderson, King’s College
Special Teams – Jeff Wojtowicz, Mount Union

NAIA
Offensive – Mike Craven, St. Francis (Ind.)
Defensive – Chuck Morrell, Sioux Falls
Special Teams – Andy Heitkamp, Minot State

Junior College
Offensive – Jeff Tatum, Georgia Military College
Defensive – Joe Roman, Joliet Junior College (Ill.)
