Universities across the country are paying close attention to the content in their media guides. Schools are forced to do so in order to insure themselves of not facing a controversial situation that could jeopardize their reputation. In response to specific cases involving false information and slandering comments of opponents in recent media guides, some schools have altered the manner in which they compile their information.

“Our coaches are asked to sign off on the information presented in their coaching bios after carefully examining the content. In addition, the coaches have been self-governing in presenting us with the proper information we request for our publication,” football SID at N.C. State, Annabelle Vaughan commented.

Vanderbilt makes certain that each coach inspects the subject matter at least three times before approval is given to print media guides. “We have tried to be more vigilant in assuring ourselves, the coaches, and the University that the information is accurate, especially with a new coaching staff onboard,” said Larry Leathers, the football SID.

These Universities have chosen these methods to allow their coaches the opportunity to correct false information that they or the University may have provided.
