While Woody Hayes walked the Ohio State sidelines (1951-78), the Buckeyes won five national titles (barely missing four others), captured 13 Big Ten crowns and won 205 games, including 152 conference matchups. Under Woody, the Buckeyes played in 11 bowl games, including eight Rose Bowls. Hayes, a man of strong inspiration and direction, will always be remembered for his on-the-field accomplishments. Some of his colorful remarks won't be soon forgotten, either.

"Me, I can't be nice and win. It's not my way."

"Paralyze their resistance with your persistence."

"I had a Cadillac offered to me one year. You know how that works. They give you a Cadillac one year and the next year they give you the gas to get out of town."

"I don't think it's possible to be too intent on winning. If we played for any other reason, we would be totally dishonest. This country is built on winning and on that alone. Winning is still the most honorable thing a man can do."

"Pride is a great thing to have. No real football player should be without it."

"I didn't come here for the security. I came here for the opportunity" said when he joined Ohio State.

"You can't pay back, but you can pay forward."

"No one will outwork me."

"You see, I try to talk my coaches out of things and if I can't, then I know they're really sure of themselves."

"Statistics always remind me of the fellow who drowned in the river whose average depth was only three feet."

"It's never an upset if the so-called underdog has all along considered itself the better team."
