When talking about successful coaches in college football in the 1990s, the conversation can be considered meaningless if Bobby Bowden is not mentioned at some point. Bowden, who has been at the helm of the Florida State Seminoles for the past 24 seasons, took over a mediocre FSU team and made it great. In his time in Tallahassee, the Seminoles have won two national championships (1993, 99), six ACC titles and have won more games in the 90s (109) than any team has in any previous decade in NCAA history. FSU was also the first wire-to-wire No. 1-ranked team in the 49-year history of the Associated Press poll and the 'Noles are the only team to finish among the AP's top four teams for 13 consecutive years. In short, Bowden knows how to coach, but he also knows how to deal with the media. Considered one of the most personable and accessible members of college football and a known devout Christian, Bowden is always willing to provide memorable quips to those willing to listen.

"Don't go to a grave with a life unused."

"I'm not too proud to change. I like to win too much."

"The greatest mistake is to continue to practice a mistake."

"Sure losses hurt, but football isn't life and death."

"A coach is like an auto mechanic who has all the parts of a car laid out. If there's a piece missing, the thing won't work. You've got to find that piece."

"It is better to have faith in a cause that will ultimately succeed than to succeed in a cause that will ultimately fail."

"God doesn't want your ability - He wants your availability."

"I just love to coach. That may sound simple, but I think sometimes people like the things that go around coaching and not the actual job. I have always gotten my greatest pleasure out of breaking down film, learning about opponents and yourself, then implementing a game plan to take advantage of your strengths and their weaknesses. I love to take a group of young men in the late summer and mold them into a team."
