We've identified some of the coaches who made a move following the 2001 season

1. West Georgia named Mike Ledford as interim head coach.

2. Mark Matlak was named head coach at Allegheny, where he replaced Blair Hrovat.

3. Colorado named Vince Okruch as defensive coordinator; he was co-defensive coordinator with the late Tom McMahon. Vance Joseph was hired to coach Colorado’s defensive backs; he was the secondary coach at Wyoming.

4. Eastern Illinois named Charley Partridge as defensive line coach and Brian Flinn as an assistant coach.

5. East Carolina hired Paul Jette as defensive backs coach.

6. Lafayette named Bruce Smith as defensive ends coach.

7. Eastern Michigan hired Charley Molnar as an assistant coach.

8. Worcester Polytechnic named Harry Armstrong as running backs coach, Jon Dupont as outside linebackers coach and Jason Martin as defensive line coach.

9. Pittsburg State hired Lance Cullen as defensive secondary coach. He was previously a GA at PSU and an assistant at Webb City (MO) High School.

10. Illinois State named RaShan Frost as an assistant coach.

11. Western Illinois named Vernon Dean as defensive back coach.

12. Colorado School of Mines hired Scott Carey, Jason Koltz and Mat Steinberg as assistant coaches.

13. Arkansas State named Steve Roberts head coach, where he replaced Joe Hollis. Roberts was 26-5 in his last three seasons at Southern Arkansas.

14. California hired Jeff Tedford to replace Tom Holmoe. Tedford was most recently the OC at Oregon and Fresno State.

15. Florida named Ron Zook head coach replacing Spurrier who left for the NFL’s Washington Redskins.

15. Georgia Tech hired Chan Gailey to replace George O’Leary. Gailey was most recently the OC for the Miami Dolphins and led the Cowboys to the playoffs two years in a row as head coach.

16. Indiana named Gerry DiNardo, who replaces Cam Cameron at Indiana. DiNardo coached at LSU from 1995-99, where he went 32-24-1.

17. Kansas hired Mark Mangino to replace Terry Allen. Mangino stays in the Big 12 after stints with Oklahoma and Kansas State.

18. La. Lafayette named Ricky Bustle as head coach, replacing Jerry Baldwin. Bustle comes from VA. Tech, where he served as OC and QB coach.

19. Navy enlisted Paul Johnson to replace Charlie Weatherbie as head coach. Johnson led Georgia Southern to two straight D I-AA championships.

20. Notre Dame hired Tyrone Willingham to replace George O’Leary, who replaced Bob Davie as head coach. Willingham became the first African-American head coach in any sport in school history.

21. San Diego State hired Tom Craft as head coach, replacing Ted Tollner. Craft most recently was the head coach at Palomar Junior College, but served as OC for San Diego State from 1994-96.

22. SMU hired Phil Bennett as head coach, replacing Mike Cavan. Bennett has served as DC at Kansas State since 1999.

23. Stanford replaces the departed Tyrone Willingham with Buddy Teevens. Teevens served as an assistant under Spurrier at Florida and was the head coach at Tulane, Dartmouth and Maine.

24. Vanderbilt named Bobby Johnson as head coach, replacing Woody Widenhofer. Johnson was formerly the head coach at Furman, where they lost to Montana in the D I-AA championship game.

26. Kansas State hired Bob Elliott as DC, replacing Phil Bennett.
