TERRY EIDSON: A LARGE PART
OF DE LA SALLE’S TRADITION
Much has been said and much has been written about the football program at De La Salle in Concord, CA. The Spartans and coach Bob Ladouceur won a national-record 151 straight games and six National Prep Poll titles from 1992-2003.
Although De La Salle has developed a handful of NFL players and its share of college stars, Ladouceur gets more acclaim for his ability to exact every last drop of ability out of his players who aren’t Division I material. Ladouceur will be the first to tell you the most important word in a Spartan’s vocabulary is teamwork. It shows on the field, and on the sideline in the relationship he has with his staff.

Terry Eidson is Ladouceur’s defensive coordinator and De La Salle’s athletics director. He has been by Ladouceur’s side every step of the way as the program evolved from never having a winning record in 12 seasons to one that, a little more than a decade later, didn’t lose a game for 12 seasons. Together, they have also created a tradition of stone wall defensive units that have allowed opponents less than 10 points per game since ’92.

While Ladouceur is the face of the De La Salle program, Eidson is the voice of it. Ladouceur is modest, quiet – almost stoic – and no more likely to waste a word in conversation than he is a moment on the practice field. On the other hand, Eidson is gregarious and talkative.

As AD, Eidson is also most responsible for scheduling the games that have cemented De La Salle’s national reputation. Wins over power clubs from Louisiana, Hawaii and every corner of California earned the Spartans lofty national rankings and made their winning streak all the more impressive.
