Letter from the Editor

In a continuing effort to change with the times, American Football Monthly has created the publication’s first editorial board. Now in its twelve year, AFM has evolved over the years from a magazine that focused on coaching profiles to one that now includes specific game strategies and X’s and O’s. Along with that change, we feel an editorial board will help in two areas: determining what is the most relevant information for today’s football coaches and, more importantly, are we giving subscribers the information they want and need to be successful.

    The board consists of nine coaches that will work with us for a one year period (July, 2006-June, 2007) and communicate with AFM on a regular basis. The inaugural editorial advisory board consists of:

• Chris Hatcher, Head Coach, Valdosta State
• Dan Hawkins, Head Coach, Colorado

• Lew Johnston, Head Coach, Western Branch HS, Chesapeake, VA
• KC Keeler, Head Coach, Delaware
• Mike Leach, Head Coach, Texas Tech

• Tony Levine, Linebackers Coach, Carolina Panthers
• Troy Morrell, Head Coach, Butler Community College (KS)
• Mike Van Diest, Head Coach, Carroll College (MT)

   Coach Van Diest is this month’s coach to respond to your questions in our new feature, “AFM Subscribers Ask…’. Additionally, this month’s issue includes two new features: ‘The Strength Report’ and ‘The Speed Report.’ Both are welcome additions to AFM based on the results of our subscriber research.
   We hope you enjoy this edition of AFM.
