Every great coach is only as good as the cast that surrounds him ... the supporters, the players, the staff. After all, it’s that surrounding cast that can often make the difference between success and failure. The same can be said of American Football Monthly. This magazine’s sole purpose is for the further enhancement of your coaching career, and that is something that we take very seriously.

After returning from my first-ever AFCA convention, which was held during January in New Orleans, I gained not only a greater appreciation of the job that football coaches do, but also the job that the staff of American Football Monthly does as well. Let me just say that I do not want to come across at trumpeting our own horn, I simply want to share a few names that you may or may not be aware of that help produce, distribute and cultivate this product, which is without a doubt the undisputed world champion of football coaching magazines.

At the convention, I received countless compliments on the overall visual appeal of AFM. For that, I must tip my hat to our graphic director, Scott Corsetti. Scott is not only one of the most professional people that I have ever had the pleasure of working with, but he is also one of the most talented. AFM is not Sports Illustrated nor does it claim to be. Our monthly budget would only perhaps pay for one photo of Cindy Crawford catching a plane to the latest SI swimsuit cover shoot.

Don’t get me wrong, our budget is more than adequate for our needs, however, the gold that Scott weaves from the straw that he is provided is remarkable. And thanks to Nate Quillinan, our play diagrams in our clinic articles are without question the most attractive and precise in the business.

Our photographer, Jim Robinette, which many of you met at the convention in January, simply gets the job done and gets the job done well. After all, he made some of you look like fashion models, and you know who I’m talking about.

Our contributing writers, Richard Scott, Jamie DeMoney, Steve Silverman, Rod Smith, Thom Park and John Laurie are about the best in the business. They know exactly how to get you the information that counts most.

Janet Converse-Kanai, Tammy Worsley and Jim Robinette (yes, Jim, again) lead our production department which does an excellent job of handling traffic, prepress of ads and the manufacturing of the magazine.

Our circulation department, ran by Charlotte Cross, Karen Sullivan and Irene Derouen, makes certain that you get your copy of AFM delivered on a timely fashion right into your hands each and every month. They are also crucial in reminding us all about vital renewal dates, which keeps your issues of AFM rolling in, one after the other with no lapses.

Sam Leppanen and Jen Hagen keep AFM’s computers up and running, and make www.AmericanFootballMonthly.com the finest football coaching Web site anywhere.

On the business side, Kelly Whitt, Natalie Germano, Jenny Burgess, Gail Zuckerman, Rosemary MacDonald and – last, but certainly not least – the owner, John Clark, are the reasons that I have the greatest job in the world and you have the greatest football coaching magazine to read – period.

The publisher of the magazine is Travis Davis. Travis’ passion for the AFM product and for the industry it serves is infectious. Travis has worked his way up the ladder from the magazine’s inception back in Emporia, Kan. His love for what we do and whom we do it for is unfathomable. And for the many coaches and advertisers who know Travis, you know I speak the truth.

You, the coach, are why we do this and these are the people that make their livelihood out of informing, praising and encouraging you throughout your career.

Eddie Robinson once said that, “Coaching is the greatest profession in the world.” Well, it just may be, but ask any of the people that work at AFM and they will tell you, having an opportunity to make your world better is pretty rewarding itself – and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Respectfully,

Aaron S. Lee
