Strength & Conditioning: Essence of Success

In preparing this annual issue, we had the privilege of talking with some of the most successful football programs at the high school, college and professional levels. And what we found was no surprise – the single most common factor to their success was their commitment to researching, implementing and maintaining an effective, year-round strength and conditioning program. Thus concluding one of the most important ingredients in any successful football program is a quality strength and conditioning program.

The simple act of lifting weights and the desire to become faster doesn’t necessarily equal a quality football strength and conditioning program. Just like many coaches spend their off-season traveling to clinics to learn more about the latest offensive trends, football programs that consistently obtain success place an emphasis on researching various strength and conditioning programs to find one that meets the needs of their programs.

With this year’s annual March Strength & Conditioning issue, we present to you the ideas, concepts and philosophies of some of the top strength and conditioning minds in the country: coaches like Mike Gentry of Virginia Tech, Jerry Simmons of the Carolina Panthers, Tommy Moffit of LSU, Danny Arnold of Plex Sports, Allan Johnson of Ohio State and Mike Barwis of West Virginia. These coaches not only share their philosophies of quality training, but they also provide the details that contribute to their programs’ successes.

Our goal with this issue is to provide you with a resource of football specific training. However, as much as we would like to believe that this issue will answer all your questions about football strength and conditioning, we understand that this topic is entirely too vast to cover in one issue. That is why we encourage you this off-season to make researching football training options a priority. We suggest contacting coaches that have superior training programs, learning more about the CSCCa (Colligate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association), talking with companies that produce quality training products and logging onto our Web site, www.AmericanFootballMonthly.com to read additional articles on the subject from leading experts.

Because if what we learned from talking with some of the most successful programs in the country is true – the championship road that you expect to travel next fall, starts in the weight room today.

As always, if there is anything that we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us at 561-355-5068. Thank you.

Respectfully,
