Now is the time to develop your game-plan for the 2012 coaches clinic season. Its your opportunity to pick up philosophy, techniques, drills, and the latest in offensive formations, defensive schemes and special teams play from some of the games most successful coaches. Here are four premier organizations that will be conducting clinics scheduled during the winter months in 2012.
Nike Coach of the Year Clinics
There are 20 nationwide Nike COY clinics in 2012. Most of the clinics are three days long, offering 18-24 sessions of 70 minutes each. 69 FBS head coaches are included in the line-up with Division II and Division III coaches, as well as high school coaches, scheduled to speak. Some of the speakers include Frank Beamer, Mack Brown, Kirk Ferentz, Jimbo Fisher, Chip Kelly, Les Miles, Will Muschamp, Gary Patterson, Chris Petersen, Nick Saban and Bob Stoops.
These clinics were founded by legendary coaches Bud Wilkinson and Duffy Daugherty more than 30 years ago, said Executive Vice President and National Clinic Director Chuck Rohe. Each clinic site has a local director who oversees the entire clinic. It gives each site a local feel and flavor. We want to make sure there are plenty of options for the coaches so we may have five different sessions going on at the same time.
The curriculum can vary from offensive strategy and defensive drills and technique to motivation and mental toughness, practice and game organizational procedures, to athletic injuries and treatment. Additionally, other topics can include the latest in football technology, administration, personnel placement and parental issues.
Coaches can register for any of the 20 clinics by going to www.nikecoyfootball.com.

The Glazier clinics do not have featured speakers but their philosophy is to offer as much content as possible. Our clinics normally include 90-130 sessions, according to Coughlin. We really believe in no frills and work on content, content, and more content. A total of 30 clinics in 28 cities are scheduled in 2012. Hammer Strength/Life Fitness will offer 12 clinics in 2012. All of the clinics are under the direction of the companys National Athletic Manager for Colleges and High Schools, Richard Gray. We started with the strength and conditioning clinics in 2008 and have gradually been building up the number, said Gray. We had six in 2009, seven in 2010 and 2011, and we have 12 scheduled for 2012. At each clinic we want to make sure we have a number of detailed topic choices for coaches.
The topics for the normal two day clinics include a variety of subjects such as in-season strength programs, out-of-season development training, summer conditioning, and position-specific training.
